Why thermal Management for batteries?

Thermal Management for 400V 420V 750V 800V batteries

Thermal Management with an optimal range of 15â—¦C to 35â—¦C for batteries is essential for increasing safety, extending service life, and reducing costs of batteries in electric and hybrid vehicles under real-driving and charging conditions.

DCAirco chillers are Designed - Developed - Manufactured for cooling / heating of 400V 420V 750V 800V batteries.

Examples of thermal management of batteries

Air to Air Heat pump
Thermal management of batteries by forced air

• Technology readiness level 9
• The simplicity of an air-cooling system is the advantage over a liquid-cooling system.
• The 2/3 times’ higher energy consumption is the disadvantage over a liquid- cooling system.
• Cleaning of air filter is needed regularly to maintain the performance
• The temperature difference of no more than 5â—¦C
• Maximum cell temperature of 55â—¦C

Liquid to Air Heat pump
Thermal management of batteries by Immersion

• Able to handle much larger heat loads than other methods
• Indirect liquid cooling is more practical than direct liquid cooling. Though it has slightly lower cooling performance.
• Very wide operating temperature range
• Condensation on components is ruled out
• Technology readiness level 7
• Longer life span of batteries
• Compacter size of batteries
• Suitable dielectric fluid may be expensive

Direct expansion (DX) Heat pump
Thermal management of batteries by refrigerant

• Eliminates liquid glycol, even has a cooling rate of 3-4 times higher, and simplifies the battery’s TMS
• A direct liquid cooling system has the lowest maximum temperature rise
• Due to this heat transfer process is more efficient
• Technology readiness level 6
• Still in early design phase

Liquid to liquid Heat pump
Thermal management of batteries by liquid

• Able to handle much larger heat loads than other methods
• Indirect liquid cooling is more practical from than direct liquid cooling, Though it has slightly lower cooling performance
• Thermal management for additional equipment
• Very wide operating temperature range
• Technology readiness level 9
• Transferring heat both ways
