Driver Cab Cooling Upgrade for British Rail Class 323
United Kingdom – A driver cab climate control upgrade has been implemented for British Rail Class 323 electric multiple units, enhancing comfort, safety, and operational reliability through the installation of a railway approved DC air conditioning system.
The project uses the DC Airco DC11002 Railway HL3 split air conditioner, specifically engineered for rolling stock applications and compliant with EN 45545 2 Hazard Level 3 (HL3) fire protection requirements. Designed for railway environments, the system delivers 2,6 kW of cooling capacity from a 24 Vdc power supply, making it well suited for onboard vehicle systems.
The compact split unit design allows flexible installation within the Class 323 cab layout while ensuring efficient heat removal from onboard electronics and providing a controlled working environment for operators. An integrated PLC controller with diagnostic display enables real time monitoring and reliable operation under demanding service conditions.
With its robust construction, high efficiency performance, and compliance with stringent railway safety standards, the DC11002 supports the continued modernization of Class 323 rolling stock, contributing to improved driver comfort and long term fleet reliability.
