Cooling System Selected for the World’s First Hybrid Rail Milling Machine
Plasser – Robel American Corp. has incorporated a DC Airco climate control system into the world’s first hybrid rail milling machine, marking a significant step in advancing sustainable and operator focused rail maintenance technology. The machine, designed to reduce environmental impact while delivering high precision rail milling performance, now benefits from a reliable and efficient cooling solution for its operator cab.
The installed system is the DC Airco DC9329 400Vac railway cab split air conditioner, a heavy duty unit engineered specifically for use in locomotive and maintenance vehicle cabs. With a cooling capacity of approximately 3,5 kW, the system ensures stable and comfortable working conditions for operators during extended milling operations, even in demanding ambient temperatures.
Built with a durable zinc plated steel housing and a powder coated finish, the DC9329 400 Vac is designed to withstand the vibration, dust, and temperature fluctuations typical of rail maintenance environments. The unit operates on a primary 400 volt supply with an integrated 24 volt dc secondary system, ensuring full compatibility with hybrid rail vehicle electrical configurations.
The air conditioner includes pre charged refrigerant lines and self sealing quick connect couplings, enabling efficient installation and minimizing downtime during integration. An onboard PLC controller provides system monitoring and diagnostics to support reliable long term operation. By integrating the DC Airco cooling system, the hybrid rail milling machine enhances operator comfort, improves safety, and contributes to the overall efficiency and sustainability of modern rail maintenance practices.
