Cab Air Conditioning for Bangladesh Railways Class 6600 Locomotives
DC Airco delivered its 7 kW split unit air conditioning system operating on 74 Vdc for installation on EMD GT42ACL (Class 6600) broad gauge freight locomotives operated by Bangladesh Railways. The project covered 40 locomotives and formed part of a fleet upgrade aimed at improving driver comfort and operational reliability.
The Class 6600 / GT42ACL locomotives are a key asset in Bangladesh Railways’ heavy haul freight operations, running in hot and humid tropical conditions. To support safe and efficient working environments, DC Airco’s railway grade split unit system was selected for its proven performance in retrofit applications.
With a cooling capacity of 7 kW, the system maintains stable cab temperatures even during low speed and heavy load operation. The 74 Vdc power configuration allows direct integration with the locomotive electrical system, minimizing installation time and vehicle downtime.
By equipping the GT42ACL / Class 6600 fleet with modern air conditioning, Bangladesh Railways significantly improves driver comfort, reduces fatigue, and supports safe and reliable freight operations. The project highlights DC Airco’s expertise in retrofit HVAC solutions for heavy duty freight locomotives operating in demanding climates.
